BRINGING GOOD INTO THE WORLD

God calls us to BE; God also calls us to DO. And what God calls us to DO is to nurture life and community in our world- advocating for the poor, housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, cleaning up our environment.  It’s how we bring good into the world.

FAMILY PROMISE HOMELESS MINISTRY

Homelessness is growing among families with children faster than any other demographic, but there are very few shelters that can accommodate children- and virtually none where the fathers can be included. Homeless families seeking shelter are often separated, with mothers and children going to one shelter, fathers going to a different shelter, and older boys having even fewer options. Family Promise is a ministry that brings families, including fathers, into the church to find shelter. Emmanuel has worked with 12 other congregations to provide shelter, each congregation serving as the host for 4 weeks of the year. During our 4 weeks, the families slept and ate dinner and breakfast at the church. Each family was given their own “bedroom” in the church, so there is some privacy and cohesion for the family. During the day, the children went to school and their parents  to the Family Promise day shelter to learn basic skills, look for jobs and apartments, and get life counseling.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the practice of the families being housed at churches was suspended and instead, Family Promise works with the families to help them remain in their own housing by providing funds and counseling services. While we are formulating a new plan to continue this mission, donations to Family Promise are critical to enable them to continue their ministry. LITTER PICK-UP

For the past 20 years, Emmanuel has participated in the Adopt-A-Highway littler clean-up program. Twice a year, in May and October, we clean up 2 miles of Hwy 18, separating the recycling from the trash. Interested in participating?

KETTLE MORAINE FOOD PANTRY

We think of hungry as only hitting ‘other places’, but pockets of hunger exist in Waukesha County as well. Kettle Moraine Food Pantry is open to our hungry neighbors Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10-11am. It is located at 705 W. Tomlin Rd. in Wales. Emmanuel supports the food pantry with monthly collections of non-perishable food (first Sunday of each month) and by the annual Souper Bowl, held on Super Bowl Sunday in February. Proteins like tuna and peanut butter are always first on the list, as are diapers.

For more information on how to volunteer, contact Donna at office@seeyouonsunday.org.

DOUSMAN HOME MEALS

For the past 33 years, Emmanuel has spearheaded an effort to help keep people independent and in their homes by providing inexpensive hot meals Mondays through Fridays.  Our area covers Dousman, Wales, North Prairie and the Delafield. The Three Pillars Living Community cooks the meals in their kitchens, and a cohort of 5 area churches deliver the meals between 11:30-12:30.

Emmanuel Family Member, Nicole Kerr is the coordinator of the program. If you are interested in receiving meals, contact her at nicoleperduekerr@gmail.com.
If you would like to be a volunteer driver, delivering meals to the clients, contact Donna Newland, office@seeyouosnunday.org.
