BRINGING GOOD INTO THE WORLD

God calls us to BE; God also calls us to DO. And what God calls us to DO is to nurture life and community in our world- advocating for the poor, housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, cleaning up our environment.  It’s how we bring good into the world.

FAMILY PROMISE HOMELESS MINISTRY

Homelessness is growing among families with children faster than any other demographic, but there are very few shelters that can accommodate children- and virtually none where the fathers can be included. Homeless families seeking shelter are often separated, with mothers and children going to one shelter, fathers going to a different shelter, and older boys having even fewer options. Family Promise is a ministry that brings families, including fathers, into the church to find shelter. Emmanuel works with 12 other congregations to provide shelter, each congregation serving as the host for 4 weeks of the year. During our 4 weeks, the families sleep and eat dinner and breakfast at the church. Each family is given their own room at the church, so there is some privacy and cohesion for the family. During the day, the children go to school and their parents go to the Family Promise day shelter to learn basic skills, look for jobs and apartments, and get life counseling. Interested in cooking or staying overnight as hosts with the families?

LITTER PICK-UP

For the past 20 years, Emmanuel has participated in the Adopt-A-Highway littler clean-up program. Twice a year, in May and October, we clean up 2 miles of Hwy 18, separating the recycling from the trash. Interested in participating?

Our next pickup is:  April 22, 2018.

KETTLE MORAINE FOOD PANTRY

We think of hungry as only hitting ‘other places’, but pockets of hunger exist in Waukesha County as well. Kettle Moraine Food Pantry is open to our hungry neighbors Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10-11am. It is located at 705 W. Tomlin Rd. in Wales. Emmanuel supports the food pantry with monthly collections of non-perishable food (first Sunday of each month) and by the annual Souper Bowl, held on Super Bowl Sunday in February. Proteins like tuna and peanut butter are always first on the list, as are diapers.

For more information on how to volunteer, contact Donna at office@seeyouonsunday.org.

DOUSMAN HOME MEALS

For the past 30 years, Emmanuel has spearheaded an effort to help keep people independent and in their homes by providing inexpensive hot meals Mondays through Fridays.  Our area covers Dousman, Wales, North Prairie and the Delafield. The Three Pillars Living Community cooks the meals in their kitchens, and a cohort of 5 area churches deliver the meals between 11:30-12:30.

Our pastor, Nansi Hawkins, is the Coordinator; if you are interested in being a driver, contact her at pastor@seeyouonsunday.org.

Our next Home Meals delivery  is  April 16-20, 2018.

BLOOD DRIVE

Six times a year the Blood Center of Wisconsin holds blood drives in the Dousman community. Emmanuel hosts two of those drives in our Fellowship Hall (March and July). We always need people to give blood; you can also serve by hosting and baking cookies for people to eat after they have given.

For more information, or to sign up, contact Donna at office@seeyouonsunday.org.

The next Dousman Blood Drive is Monday, May 14, 2018 from 1:30-6:30pm  at the Community Center on Main Street.
